May 20th: Vienna, Austria

Today we took a short 2 hour flight to Vienna. Unfortunately it was raining and much colder than Dubai. Understandable since Dubai is the desert! Vienna airport was fairly small and easy to get through. I started to notice a lot of dogs. Turns out Vienna is very dog friendly. You are able to have them on the subway (with a mask over their mouth), in restaurants, shopping, pretty much anywhere. We saw a Lhasa Apso in the baggage claim area.
Neither of us speak German, but we managed to buy our subway tickets and get on board. The ride was fairly long & we had to stop once to switch trains. Unfortunately while I was dragging a bag an older woman wasn't paying attention and we managed to collide. She managed to slowly (seemed like slow motion) fall over my bag in the weirdest position. I was so afraid she was going to break a hip! She realized she was in the wrong and got up mumbling something I could not understand. Oy vey, my Vienna trip was off to a good start!
We arrived at our lovely hotel, Hotel Bristol. We were upgraded to a suite and the bags were taken to our room for us. When we arrived in the room champagne and Imperial chocolates were waiting for us. It was fairly early to celebrate, so we took a nap instead. Our 30 minute nap turned into 5 hours! Turns out we were exhausted and it was a perfect time to catch up considering it was pouring outside. Eventually we got motivated, found the umbrellas & went for a walk. Even with the rain it was beautiful. We were hungry and stopped at a pub for dinner. We enjoyed a refreshing German beer. We were about to order a wiener schnitzel but starting choking on smoke. Positive thing in Vienna: lots of dogs. Negative thing in Vienna: everyone and their mother smokes and you can smoke anywhere you want. Ugh! We decided to skip eating and find a less smoky restaurant. We found a Japanese restaurant. It was delicious but half way through our meal everyone lit up their cigarettes! Oh well. We walked back and jumped in bed. Even after a nap we were still tired!
