Crisfield Boat Dock Racing

Had a blast this long weekend going to Reedville, Tangier and Crisfield. I experienced the Crisfield boat docking competition for the first time. Surprisingly it was a blast to watch and the crowd was great. Really got your adrenaline going watching the teams compete. Thankfully no one got hurt! Beer was cheap too :)

Here is a picture of the tiki bar we had dinner at and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Here is a picture of the crabs we caught in my parent's crab pot. Totally free!

Here are some videos of the races...

Reading again

I used to read a lot of books in high school and college. Obviously I had to read specific (normally boring) books for classes but I also read a lot in my free time. I took way too long of a break and have stopped reading the past couple of years. Now I enjoy going to the library and picking out books I think I will enjoy. I love mysteries, dramas and old classics. I checked out a book to take along with me on my trip to Tampa (this past weekend) so I'd have something to do on the plane, besides sleeping. After all the recent hype in the news I didn't think the Twilight Saga would be any good... too many teenagers were obsessed with the movie. Many of my friends recommended the 4 books so I decided to rent Twilight from the library. To my shock, I cannot put it down! It is amazing. I've reserved the Twilight movie to come next on our netflix list. I know for a fact the book will be better so I'm glad I read it first. I've also reserved New Moon (the sequel to Twilight) at the library so I can read it next. So glad I got back into reading, I forgot how much fun it was :)

British Virgin Islands bareboating trip

I'm so upset the trip is over, but we had an amazing time. David & Deb were so much fun to be around and we had some great family catch up time. I can't wait to do it again! My Mom treated me to acupuncture at Leverick Bay Marina to relieve my sea sickness/motion sickness problem. I was scared at first but it was a very relaxing, therapeutic session. Only 9 more sessions to go and I will be relieved of motion sickness forever, wahoo!

I didn't feel like posting all the pictures again so please check them out on my facebook page. You do not have to be a member, this is a public link. Enjoy!

mmm raw food!

After spending time with my brother in the British Virgin Islands and seeing all of his meals, I've decided to try to eat more raw food. A woman lost 160lbs eating a raw food diet, so why not?! My salad was delicious and I struggled to finish it. Eggplant is pretty hard to eat raw so I had to saute it, but I'm getting nutrients from the coconut oil. I know what's for lunch tomorrow!
Ingredients:
spinach leaves
a small avocado
edamame
eggplant sauteed in coconut oil
soy sauce
lemon juice

Yay, people are caring about sharks!

I'm a member of a pro-shark group called Shark Trust. A few weeks ago a mass email was sent out asking members to email the Shark Fest 2009 director, asking him to cancel the event. The event is still happening but it is a no kill event, wahoo! Finally people are listening and realizing sharks are a vital part of our earth and are too close to extinction. Next step, get rid of shark fin soup!

Wombat joey in mom's pouch

As you probably know from the youtube videos and photographs I post I'm a tad bit obsessed with wombats. I found this photograph on the Chicago Zoological Society web site and thought it was absolutely fascinating!

Cuddle

Yard Work

I was on a mission yesterday, which almost turned into a disaster. I knew it was going to rain today so I wanted to mow the lawn and fertilize the day before. I put the lawn mower together in the garage and followed the directions. Had no idea how to attach the bag, but my Dad said leaving the grass cuttings outside acted as fertilizer. Next step, adding the gas and oil. I followed the directions like a good girl. I was instructed to pour the gas into the tank and leave 1/2 inch remaining at the top. Step 2, add oil and empty the entire contents of the bottle. Hmmm, there wasn't enough room. Oh well, I'll poured the amount that fit in. As I'm pouring I then realize there is a cap on the other side of the mower that says 'Oil.'
SHIT.

I call my Mother panicked and she says the lawn mower is most likely ruined and to call my Dad. He tells me to empty all the oil/gas into a coffee pot or any container and go buy more oil and fill it up the correct way. I felt like such an idiot! I went to Lowe's and an employee there told me everyone has done this, it was not a blonde moment. Right, I'm sure he was just saying that to make me feel better.
I got back to the house and filled up the gas tank and oil tank correctly. After 10 attempts at starting the engine, and 10 gassy explosions, it started. Phew! I mowed the lawn and felt pretty proud of myself. After the gas smell went away I got to enjoy the cut grass/onion smell. Love it.
I fertilized the yard and killed some more weeds too. Thankfully when Fraser got home I was all smiles and told him the story.
Mid afternoon I thought the day was going to be a disaster but thankfully I saved myself and the lawn mower and this did not happen!

First Snow Storm

I'm back, sorry I've been away so long. The new house and work were keeping me busy. Now it's time to look for another job since another graphic designer and I were laid off. Blah. Back to square 1 but I'm looking at different options now. Perhaps graphic design is something I will do on the side and brain trauma will be my main priority. People need to be educated about it, and I certainly have the experience! Here are pictures from a few weeks ago when we had a blizzard, 5-7 inches of snow! Had 1 day off of work too, wahoo.

Closing on Friday!

Fraser and I close and move into our house on Friday the 20th! Wahoo! Can't wait! We've been packing all weekend and will continue to pack the rest of the week. We have a U-Haul arranged for Friday night so we can pick up our new couches and then start loading in the boxes at the apartment. My parents are coming to help so hopefully we will have everything ready to go Saturday night! Lowe's comes Saturday to deliver our new kitchen :) and we will pick up our new bed on Saturday too. The Verizon Vios TV, internet and phone will hopefully be installed on Saturday too. Going to be a busy but exciting weekend. Here are a few more pictures:
